1. What is the requirements of the protection level of LED display enclosures ?
The enclosure protection level is the degree of protection provided by the equipment against the entry of solid foreign objects or the entry of water, expressed in IP codes. LED displays are installed in different places, and different enclosure protection levels should be provided. The industry standard “General Specifications for LED Displays” requires that the enclosure protection level of the LED display should meet the requirements of the national standard “Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code)” GB4208. The indoor LED display screen should not be lower than IP20, and the outdoor LED display screen body is not lower than IP33. The industry standard “Test Method for LED Display” divides the protection level of the display shell into three levels: A, B, and C, of which level C has the highest requirements. Indoor A grade is not lower than IP20, B grade is not lower than IP30, C grade is not lower than IP31; outdoor screen A grade is not lower than IP33, B grade is not lower than IP54, C grade is not lower than IP66
2. What is the specific requirements of the shell protection level ?
According to the national standard “Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code)” GB4208, the enclosure protection level code is composed of the word code IP, the first characteristic number, and the second characteristic number. The first characteristic number indicates the different requirements for equipment and the protection of personnel. The second characteristic number indicates different requirements to prevent harmful effects on the equipment due to water ingress. Table 1 is a brief description and meaning of the characteristic numbers.

3. Status quo of protection grade of display screen housing
The enclosure protection level of the display screen generally refers to the enclosure protection level of the display box, not the enclosure protection level of the LED display surface.
The box-type indoor display screen can generally meet the requirements of IP30. The embedded indoor display screen adopts the unit board fixing method due to installation and other reasons, and there are no protective measures on the back of the display screen. If there are no protective measures around the screen body, small animals will enter the screen body and cause damage to the display screen.
The outdoor display screen can be divided into sealed boxes, full box (with door), half box (without door), and integral box according to the protection level of the shell. The sealed box is generally made of an aluminum casting box or double-door structure box. The shell has a good heat dissipation function and can achieve IP67 or even IP68 protection levels.
The whole box is generally ventilated and dissipated by fans, and there are air inlets and outlets. The whole box can achieve IP34~IP35 and IP44~IP45 according to different waterproof and dustproof designs, mainly depending on different schemes of waterproof and dustproof. The half box generally has no door, the protection level of the display surface can reach IP66, and the back has no protection, so it can only be applied to occasions with closed maintenance channels, and the closed maintenance channels have similar protection requirements of not lower than IP20. The enclosure protection level of the integral box is the same as that of the whole box.
Fixed-installed indoor display screens generally do not pay much attention to the protection level of the enclosure, and environmental conditions determine the protection level of the display screen. At present, the SMD three-in-one surface mount (5050) indoor display can also achieve IP45, which meets the needs of special occasions such as swimming pools.
Most outdoor display screens adopt the whole box structure, which can meet the protection requirements of the display screen shell. Domestic display screen manufacturers have few enclosure protection level test equipment that meets the requirements of the “Enclosure Protection Level (IP Code)” GB4208 test, especially those that meet the IPX5 and IPX6 test conditions.
Many companies use the short-term immersion test to detect the protection level of the display box shell. The short-term water immersion test can generally detect the protection level of the display surface, but cannot test the protection level of other surfaces of the box. Tests for preventing the entry of solid foreign objects are relatively easy to implement.
Enterprises only need to make corresponding test tools in accordance with the requirements of GB4208, and conduct inspections according to the methods of GB4208. Enterprises generally take samples in major projects and invite a qualified third party to inspect the enclosure protection level.
